![]() ![]() The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974: When the second guy goes into the Sawyer house and enters the kitchen and finds the corpse of one of his females in the cooler, that is until she convulses and jumps up! The rest of the film was still appropriately freaky. The Exorcist 1973: Most likely the spider walk down the stairs is the scene that got me the most. Scrooge 1970: During the visit of the 3rd spirit, Scrooge is shown his grave and as the ghost of Christmas future comes up behind him and suddenly we see his hooded skeletal face as Scrooges grave opens up and he falls down into hell! He turns around and she suddenly lunges at him with her fangs in a freeze frame! Yeah.Ĭount Yorga Vampire 1970: At the very end where the male main character is trying to escape the house of the vampires with his girlfriend. Night of the Living Dead 1968: Similar to Horror of Dracula, I expect this to be a product of its time and that it was a fun popcorn flick, except when the main character reaches the farmhouse a suddenly finds a horribly mutilated corpse with a quick zoom in on the bloody skull at the top of the stairs. We are kept in suspense until Elenore looks up and we see the face of a pale ghastly woman appear through a trap door, later revealed to be the scientists missing wife. The Haunting 1963: During the end where there a suspenseful scene on a wobbly loose steel Spiral staircase where the scientist character is trying to help Elenore off the staircase. Psycho 1960: At the very end of the movie where the skeletal remains of Norman Bates' mother is shown and we see the skull in full view! That skull design still haunts me a bit. Horror of Dracula 1958: During the library scene at Dracula's castle a lady vampire tries to get close to Harker to bit him, but Christopher Lee's Dracula appears and we suddenly see his snarling face with bloody fangs and bloodshot eyes! I had the impression that this was going to be an old fashion Gothic thriller, but that scene really took me by surprise!ĭarby O'gill and the Little People 1959: The scene near the end when the green Banshee returns to haunt Darby when he opens the front door to his house and the banshee just suddenly appears in front of the camera with her mangled face in full view! This list will go from old to new from when the movie was made and this is not a top ranked list, it's just a simple list collecting jumps scare scenes that stayed with me since I was a kid. Like with a lot of people, I've experienced a good amount of jumpscares from various movies, horror or otherwise, and I've been excited to share this list for a while since I'm a big horror fan.
